Bob & his wife Lilly live in Innisfail, Alberta where he operates Overlander Outfitters, a tackle & fly fishing shop and where he has been tying flies commercially for the past 3 years.
Bob starting tying flies in 1982 & what started out as a hobby during the long winter evenings in Grande Prairie (where he spent 10 years and operated North Country Outfitters) soon became a passion.
These long evenings were conducive to spending many hours behind the vise and, letting his imagination run and calling upon his fishing experiences of the past 30 years, he began experimenting with long standing patterns. Adding a little something here, taking a little something away there, he was soon developing his own patterns. Some of these proved to be very successful and it wasn’t long before fishers in the north country were enjoying the use of these innovations.
Bob is in daily contact with fishers who patronize his shop and, in addition to tying the usual standard patterns for a wide customer base, has again been developing patterns that are suited to the rivers, streams and lakes throughout west central Alberta. His numerous repeat customers now range from the Calgary area north to Edmonton and into south central British Columbia.
